Speaking at a press conference, Andres Bautista Garcia from the opposition PRD party said that the positive effects that could have come from President Danilo Medina's speech have been tarnished by the appointment of a cabinet that contains many members of the last government.

He said that in any case, the PRD thinks that the true value of the speech will become apparent after a few months when actual deeds can be compared with the words.

He said that in his speech Medina appeared to acknowledge what the PRD has been saying about the profound moral, institutional, economic and social crisis he will inherit from his predecessor. He said that Medina's speech sought to satisfy public expectations without considering the limits that will be imposed on him by the profound economic and financial crisis left by the previous administration.

Bautista said that the new President also failed to mention the serious issue of drug trafficking that the public currently considers the most worrying and dangerous issue.

Neither did he spend time on the problem of the cost of living, nor the violations of consumer rights, said the leading PRD member.

He went on to say that another issue conspicuous by its absence was the lack of public works in some communities which are cut off, or have a terrible road system, and he did not mention the issue of relationships between the municipalities and congress that is of enormous importance.

Bautista also lamented the fact that the new President did not discuss the pending electoral bills and guarantees to prevent all the irregularities and traumas of the last national elections, because the nation wants to know what his position will be when faced with the 2016 elections to ensure there are no new threats to the democratic system.
