The Dominican Republic's second heart transplant patient, Ana Melo died at 6:02am this morning, Monday 20 August, when her body rejected the heart. The 52-year old woman, who was suffering from dilated cardiomyopathy, received the transplant three weeks ago at the Centro Cardio Neuro Oftalmologico y Transplante (Cecanot), a government clinic. The center announced it would continue to carry out organ transplants. There have as yet been no press updates on the progress of the DR's first heart transplant patient, 22-year old Estephany Moreno, who underwent surgery at Cedimat on 19 July, following the same diagnosis.
