The Dominican Electricity Industry Association (ADIE) has confirmed the claim by Ruben Jimenez Bichara, the new executive vice-president of the CDEEE, who stated that the outstanding debt with the generators was over US$1 billion. The executive vice president of the association, Milton Morrison, told Hoy reporter Ubaldo Guzman that this amount is the result of the US$916,721,777 that is owed to eight generators and the commitment to the Laesa firm. Celso Marranzini, in a letter published in most of the nation's newspapers yesterday, Wednesday 22 August, said that the debt to the generators was US$768 million and that US$700 million of this was covered by the bond issue that was recently approved by the Congress and the payment of US$200 million from various government dependencies. EGE-Haina is the largest creditor with US$292 million outstanding, followed by AES Dominicana with US$249 million.
