The huge new Agora Mall, which opens its doors today, has created almost 2,000 new jobs and is located in the heart of Santo Domingo's commercial district. There is plenty of parking available and access from Abraham Lincoln or John F. Kennedy avenues provides customers with easy access. There is no doubt that the new mall is vast and impressive: over 120,000m2 of construction, and 100% of the commercial entities that took part in the project are Dominican. There are 16 fast food outlets and a Cinema Palace, banks and a gaming area called Scream Land. One outstanding aspect of this project is that the building is now the first 'green' commercial building in Santo Domingo. The company decided to forego a big opening celebration and donated RD$800,000 to the Agricultural Association of Los Dajaos (near Jarabacoa) for a community project to protect local natural resources.
The Mall has 180 store spaces, of which about half will open for the first day. Jumbo is offering big sales to attract people on its first day, which falls on the day before Tropical Storm Isaac is forecast to hit the city.
