Jorge Mera meets with Miguel Vargas

In a new turn of events, the PRD secretary general met yesterday, Wednesday 22 August with PRD president Miguel Vargas Maldonado at the PRD National House in Santo Domingo. The meeting was, according to the reports in Diario Libre and other newspapers, "strictly party business." Spokesmen for both sides of the internal struggle said that the issues surrounding the crisis between Hipolito Mejia and Vargas Maldonado were not discussed at the meeting. However, it was also known that further meetings would take place after Vargas Maldonado returns for a trip abroad. A commission composed of Tony Pena Guaba and Cesar Cedeno and Orlando Jorge Mera will be monitoring progress towards a major party convention next year. During the press conference, Milagros Ortiz Bosch, Luis Abinader and Janet Camilo were in attendance.
