President Danilo Medina has announced the creation of the Quisqueya Without Extreme Poverty (Quisqueya Sin Miseria) social program under the General Department of Special Programs of the Presidency. The program, which was first mentioned in his inaugural speech, will provide training and opportunities for reducing poverty and social exclusion in families and vulnerable communities. The initiative involves integrated development programs for babies and pre-schoolers with daycare centers, and combating illiteracy in adults.
