The Education Ministry (Minerd) closed all the country's state schools from noon on Thursday 23 August, in anticipation of the arrival of tropical storm Isaac. Meanwhile, the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD) also announced that there would be no classes on Friday. Minister of Education Josefina Pimentel called on all principals, teachers and the education community in general to ensure all the equipment was safe and the appropriate preparations made.
She also asked school principals and their teams to ensure that they were in permanent communication with the Emergency Operations Center (COE) in their area.
It was announced that once the effects of the storm had passed, all should go back to school on Monday, 27 August.
