Consumer protection agency Proconsumidor recently reported that Dominican salami did not meet quality standards, without singling out any company in particular. As a result, Dominicans have practically stopped consuming the popular breakfast and dinner meat product. A Newlink poll now says that 37.9% trusts the Proconsumidor findings.

Julian Antonio Parra said that as no company in particular was named, consumers have chosen to avoid all brands of salami and switch to eating eggs and avocados with their breakfast mangu. The survey said that 15% of the salami products contained bacteria, 51% had too much nitrate, and 60% was below minimum protein levels. The Newlink poll says that 51.2% of salami consumers are no longer buying the product, while 33% does so one to three times a week.
