After coming home to savor fan support after his win in London, Santos returned to international competition with his participation in the Diamond League.

On Thursday, 23 August he competed in the event in Lausanne, Switzerland where he clocked 45.03 to come in second to Kirani James from Grenada, the Olympic gold medalist.

On 26 August, he was back in England to compete in the Aviva Grand Prix in Birmingham, part of the Diamond League competitions, placing second once again, but this time to Angelo Taylor (44.93), two-time Olympic gold medalist in the event. His time was 44.96. His best ever is 44.45, set on 27 May in the Hengelo World Challenge.

Financially, all has changed for Luguelin Santos. So far this year he has made US$28,000, as reported in Diario Libre. He needs to pay expenditures and commission to his event-booking agent, but running is finally paying off for him. He also received RD$6 million from the Dominican government for his silver medal in the London Olympics.

His next competition is the Belgacom, the Memorial Van Damme in Brussels.

Diario Libre's sports writer Nathanael Perez Nero reports that if Santos continues to win at his current pace, he could reap a US$40,000 prize.
