The areas covered by EdeSur, most of the National District and south central and southwestern provinces, were heavily affected by the rains from Tropical Storm Isaac. However, the Public Electricity Corporation (CDEEE) and EdeSur say that they have reestablished service on 96% of circuits. According to Hoy, eight circuits are still out of service in EdeSur and 38 are partially damaged.
In the southwest, the provinces of Elias Pina, San Jose de Ocoa, Pedernales and Barahona were especially hard hit. The Electricity Sector Emergency Commission reported that because of difficult local conditions, many of the circuits in the region could not be reached for repairs.
Meanwhile, EdeEste, which distributes power in eastern Santo Domingo and the eastern provinces, says that 20 circuits out of 247 were damaged. At EdeNorte only four circuits were damaged. The CDEEE reported that 96% of all circuits are functioning.
