Just like the Old West, a shootout

Yesterday, Monday 27 August, a Dominican Air Force lieutenant and a National Police sergeant both died following an argument over a woman that ended in an old-fashioned shootout, as reported in Hoy. The incident occurred in the Villa Melecia sector of Montellano in the province of Puerto Plata. Rafael Gregorio Valdez Martinez, a first lieutenant in the army, and Sergeant Domingo Gerardo Balbuena Sanchez, 34, shot each other while arguing about the affections of Viagni Maria Veras. According to preliminary investigations, both men fired their weapons several times, the officer died on the spot and the sergeant died later at the public hospital in Puerto Plata. A local motorcycle taxi driver said that he witnessed the incident between the two men.
