The vice president of the Dominican Electricity Industry Association (ADIE) Milton Morrison, reported on Tuesday 28 August that he met with the executive vice-president of the Public Electricity Corporation (CDEEE), Ruben Jimenez Bichara for talks on the government's debt to the power generators. According to El Nuevo Diario, Morrison confirmed that the generators are owed more than US$1 billion as Jimenez Bichara had said publically about a week ago. The businessman said that the generators are in a state of emergency over the arrears in payments, and have used up their working capital. Because of this, they will not have money to buy new fuel once their inventory is used up. He said that the "government needs to take a more active part that will guarantee payment..."

Listin Diario forecasts that recurring blackouts in 24-hour circuits are around the corner due to the government arrears in paying the generators.
