The Department of Taxes (DGII) announced the start of renewals of the stickers validating a vehicle's registration (marbetes) at one of the 332 points across the country or via the Internet (www.dgii.gov.do (http://www.dgii.gov.do)) as of today, Wednesday 29 August. Vehicles from 2008 onwards will pay RD$2,200 and vehicles up to 2007 will pay RD$1,200.
Every year a sizable number of car owners wait until the last minute to renew the sticker despite it being the country's simplest, fastest and most efficient bureaucratic process. Generally speaking the renewal process takes less than five minutes and avoids the RD$600 fine, and the very possible seizure of a vehicle without the proper "marbete".
