The Civil and Commercial Chamber of the Court of Appeals for the Judicial District of Santo Domingo has upheld a lower court decision that invalidated the results of a public tender for the assets of Aster Communication, a cable television service that formed part of the BanInter assets confiscated by the government, as reported in El Nuevo Diario.
As a result, Telemicro/Servicios Ampliados de Telefonos (Satel) will be allowed to participate in the tender under the same conditions as bidders from the Punta Cana-Macao Consortium, which was apparently favored by the Central Bank during the process, according to the judge. The decision by judge Yadira de Moya Kunhardt protects the interests of Satel and allows the company to bid in the tender. The Punta Cana-Macao Consortium and the Central Bank had rejected the company's participation in the tender.
