The National Drug Control Department (DNCD) is investigating an immigration inspector at Las Americas airport who supposedly received a RD$50,000 bribe to allow a Dominican passenger to leave the country, although he was subject to an exit ban as a suspected drug trafficker.

The employee, whose name has not been revealed, was taken to the Public Prosecutor's office in Santo Domingo where she is being interrogated.

It is said that the inspector received the money from the passenger who wished to fly to Europe, and he had been arrested at the same airport a year ago as a drug mule. The case began when a DNCD official recognized the passenger and detained him after the immigration officer had stamped his passport allowing him to leave. The inspector argued that she had received a communication signed by the former Attorney General, dated 24 August, saying the exit ban had been lifted. However, Radhames Jimenez left the post on August 16.
