Territories without Limits, a new individual exhibition by Elvis Aviles is open at the Mesa Fine Arts Gallery at Plaza La Lira II, in the Piantini sector of Santo Domingo. Aviles is a leading abstract painter who has won several awards. Curator Amable Lopez Melendez says that the exhibition pays homage to Antoni Tapies, who recently died, with its symbolism of death. Born in Santo Domingo in 1965, Aviles is a graduate of the Bellas Artes Art School who has attended art workshops with Alberto Bass and Pedro Cespedes. He won first prize at the National Biennial of the Visual Arts, the Critics' Award at the 20th Biennial of the Visual Arts (drawing) and the Fifth Hall of Drawing sponsored by Arawak. He has exhibited in museums and cultural centers in Europe and Latin America and won an award at the Festival Cagnes-sur-Mer.
