Voters increase for 2008 election

A report by the Central Electoral Board (JCE) estimates that for the 2008 presidential elections 5.8 million Dominicans will be eligible to vote. This is a 600,000-person increase from the last elections held in 2004. The report indicates that after the 2006 congressional and municipal elections the voting census grew from 5.2 million to 5.5 million. In 2006, 121,002 new voters were registered.
