The official Presidential photo is a tradition that has been followed in the Dominican Republic that goes back as far as living memory. When a President served for more than one term, the photograph seemed to be frozen in time, as in the cases of President Joaquin Balaguer and President Leonel Fernandez, whose photos did not reflect the aging process. Since President Danilo Medina took over, the photograph of his predecessor Fernandez has been taken down, but not been replaced by one of the new President. Instead, several institutions have hung photos of PLD party founder Juan Bosch, paintings, or information of general interest. Many have speculated that Medina will not observe the tradition, although his spokesman Roberto Rodriguez Marchena says it's just a rumor and that Medina has not addressed the matter because he has other priorities. Diario Libre observes that none of the offices in the Presidential Palace are displaying photos of Medina.
