A report by the Central Electoral Board (JCE) estimates that 5.8 million Dominicans will be eligible to vote in the 2008 presidential elections. This is a 600,000-person increase from the last elections held in 2004. The report indicates that after the 2006 congressional and municipal elections the number of voters on the electoral roll increased from 5.2 million to 5.5 million. In 2006, 121,002 new voters were registered.
