Long distance swimmer Marcos Diaz was appointed one of six deputy ministers at the Ministry of Sports over the weekend, as President Danilo Medina continues to announce key members of his cabinet, while reducing the number of deputy ministers.
The Medina administration is implementing apparent plans to reduce the number of making announcements that limit the deputy ministers to six in each ministry. In the past Fernandez administration, the ministries had many more deputy ministers.
Listin Diario reports that the posts of at least 137 deputy ministers, deputy general directors, with wages ranging from RD$60,000 to RD$185,000 a month were have been eliminated in the past 12 decrees issued by the Executive Branch.
Over the weekend, the new government announced the deputy ministers of the Ministry of Sports, including long-distance swimmer Marcos Diaz. Others are: Reyes Anibal Portorreal, Gerardo Suero Correa, Yadira Issa, Enmanuel Puello and Soterio Ramirez.
In the Ministry of Women, the appointees are: Wilfrida Ramona Garcia, Matilde Lucrecia Ovalle, Sonia Margarita Diaz, Idenia Done, Cristina Perez de Amoros and Mercedes Roa.
In the Ministry of Education: Giselle Felix, Victor R. Sanchez, Jorge Adalberto Martinez, Luis de Leon, Saturnino de los Santos, Minerva Vincent and Luz Selene Plata.
Deputy ministers in the Ministry of Public Administration are: Donatila German, Carlos Manzano, Pedro Nina, Elso Martinez, Julio Canelo and Hilda Cabrera.
President Danilo Medina appointed Magino Corporan as the new director of the National Council for Disabled People. Ricardo Garcia was confirmed as the director of the National Botanical Gardens.
In other appointments, President Medina designated new advisors: Osmar Benitez and Domingo Contreras, Romeo A. Llinas Capellan (mining).
TV host Brenda Sanchez was appointed director of the Gran Teatro del Cibao in Santiago. Listin Diario recalls that Sanchez was the MC when Danilo Medina was presented at the Gran Arena del Cibao in Santiago during the political campaign.
El Caribe reports today, Monday 3 September that under Fernandez, the Ministry of Education had 26 deputy ministers, Environment 19, Tourism 24, Agriculture 38, Sports 33 and Industry and Commerce 17.
