A recent study by the Regional Center of Economic and Social Strategies (CREES) revealed that each deputy costs Dominican taxpayers RD$23.8 million a year, up from RD$8.2 million cost in 2004, prior to the return of the PLD administration to government. But, according to Hoy, reports on the activities by the legislators show very poor performance for most, and most have not even delivered a report.

Of the 183 deputies who should have presented a report on their individual activities during the 2011-2012 legislative session, only ten have done so, according to the Office of Free Access to Information.

CREES is making the point that the Dominican Republic has the most expensive congress in Latin America.

Only Juan Julio Campos (PLD-La Altagracia), Roberto Perez Lebron (PLD-San Juan), Cristian Paredes (who recently resigned from the PRD-Sanchez Ramirez), and the president of the Chamber of Deputies, Abel Martinez (PLD-Santiago) had handed in their reports. Also, Adalgisa Fatima Pujols (PLD-Santo Domingo), Luis Rafael Sanchez Rosario (PRD-Santo Domingo), Manuel de Jesus Jimenez (PLD-Santo Domingo), Rene Polanco Vidal (PLD- Santo Domingo, and Johanny Guzman (PLD-Valverde) have complied with the requirement. In addition, the vice-president of the Chamber, Lucia Medina Sanchez (PLD-San Juan [the President's sister]) has said that she has everything ready and will present it at a public event on 9 September. Article 92 of the Constitution requires legislators to present a report on the use of their funds to their constituents, but many of the deputies are saying that they give away money to people who are needy but who do not provide any receipts.
