Three men stabbed and killed a young musician, 23-year old Jose Carlos Hernandez in the early hours of Sunday 2 September in Santo Domingo. Hernandez was the son of late merengue singer Jochy Hernandez and television presenter Maria del Carmen Hernandez.

Some versions of events suggest that a woman confused Hernandez with one of her alleged rapists and arrived at the Gustavo Live Pub discotheque on Winston Churchill Avenue at the corner of Jose Amado Soler, with three men who went after the victim with knives. A source at the National Institute of Forensic Pathology told Diario Libre that Hernandez received at least 27 stab wounds.

Yesterday, Sunday 2 September the National Police presented Maximo Almanzar Garcia, Miguel Angel Batista and Josias Mota as the alleged perpetrators of the killing. The Police said that 20-year old Crispi Lorena Sanchez is serving as a witness. The nightspot was hosting a rock concert that evening and the late Hernandez would have attended as a spectator with Oscar Alberto Ricart Arzeno, who was injured in his left shoulder. Hernandez was a drummer of the rock group Exsanguination Throne and had played in concerts in Argentina and around the world. He lived in Argentina and had arrived in the Dominican Republic on vacation less than five days ago, said his relatives. His remains are at the Blandino Funeral Home on Abraham Lincoln Avenue. A Police report quoted in El Nuevo Diario says that this was most likely a case of mistaken identity with tragic results.

But an uncle of Jose Carlos Hernandez, former San Cristobal senator Tito Hernandez doubted this was a casual event. As reported in Diario Libre, he said the family suspects the crime was planned and called for a thorough investigation.
