The Department of Taxes (DGII) says that in the first week since the annual renewal process for vehicle taxation (marbetes) started, they have received RD$37,602,800 which is RD$13,913,400 more than the first week of sales last year, representing an increase of 59%.
28,504 marbetes have been bought, 11,222 more than last year, the majority from the banks and savings organizations and only 2,957, just over 10%, via the Internet. This year the rates are RD$2,200 for vehicles from 2008 and newer and RD$1,200 for older models.
