The Dominican Telecommunications Institute (Indotel) has ordered the suspension of all sales and marketing activities of the Orange 4G service as a preventive measure saying that there is a possible threat to, or violation of users' rights, as this country does not have the technical capacity to provide this service.

Indotel went on to say that initial investigations showed that no plans or contracts were in place for the 4G service, just for 3G, and that Orange should not create false expectations or confuse its customers about its products and services.

Orange said that they would appeal, explaining that they had invested both time and money to ensure that they worked in line with the National Frequency Attribution Plan (PNAF) issued by Indotel and that their existing 4G customers would continue to receive their Internet service while the situation with Indotel was being clarified.

4G was launched on July 9 in the Naco, Piantini, Cacicazgos, Bella Vista and Mirador areas of the capital, with an investment of US$150 million.
