If 21 January and 26 January fall on a working day, Dominicans will get that day off. Yesterday, Thursday 6 September, Congress approved the motion that says Dominicans need to show their respect for the founding father of the nation, Juan Pablo Duarte's birthday on 26 January, and for the Protector Virgin Mary of the Dominican people, Our Lady of Altagracia, on 21 January. Up till this year, the days were 'moved,' creating long weekends whenever they fell on a working day. In 2013, 21 January falls on a Monday, and 26 January on a Saturday.
