During a Dialogo Libre discussion organized by Diario Libre newspaper, Central Electoral Board (JCE) president Roberto Rosario said that he worried about the possibility of a "bloodbath" during the election process in May. The involvement of active and retired military personnel used by some political parties to monitor the electoral process was the cause of major concerns for the JCE, which feared a "bloodbath" in the country. According to Rosario, this fear was prevalent at the time.

"The involvement of active and retired military officers, under the pretext of guaranteeing the security of the polling stations and the process itself, gave me a lot of worry because it exposed the country, if both parties that considered themselves to be the winners, they would take on the security of the process and cause a bloodbath in the country. Since I was responsible for the process of the administration of the elections, I could not forgive myself if this happened, I would have been frustrated," said Rosario.

Last week, La Lupa news magazine reported on the wasteful spending in the 2012 presidential election. The investigative report says that the JCE was over budget by RD$783 million. La Lupa says that the organization of the elections was one of the most costly in the entire Central American and Caribbean region.
