Central Electoral Board (JCE) president Roberto Rosario has announced plans to issue a public tender for selecting the company to supply the materials for the new identification and voter registration card (cedula), which will be launched between February and March of next year at the latest.
He said that they have obtained facial recognition data and fingerprints from approximately four million citizens and only two million remain for accreditation.
"It should be a cedula that includes, for example, facial and fingerprint data, which can be read by electronic instruments by the banking system and the commercial sector and of course they would be used in the public institutions," he stated, while taking part in Dialogo Libre, a discussion sponsored by Diario Libre.
He said that the new document includes the individual's preference to be an organ donor as well as blood type.
