In four to six months at the latest, the lottery known as El Gordo de la Primitiva from Spain will be available as another option that will be sold in the DR through all National Lottery outlets. Lottery director Jose Francisco Pena Tavarez said that this game would generate significant income for the National Lottery along with two other new games that they also plan to introduce. "El Gordo de la Primitiva" is a game from the Sociedad Estatal de Loteria de Apuestas del Estado de Espana (The State Society of Betting Lottery of the State of Spain) which initially starts with five million euros - about RD$250 million - and can reach EUR20 million. The size of the prize money will make it a major attraction in the lottery market, he added.
According to Pena Tavarez, the national lottery will promote and sell the game, and receive 24% of the gross sales, while the Spanish agency will take care of paying the prizes.
"The (DR) lottery only wins, since it will be doing the marketing, but it does not do the draw, which continues in Spain, nor does it pay the prizes. With this contract we only win and win," he said. He recalled that the contract for the sale of the Gordo de la Primitiva in the country was signed on 2 August and they hope to finalize the technical details soon so that they can install the communications system, sales points, the machines and carry out trials, so that within six months at the latest they can begin to play.
