US$7.4 million to fight organized crime

The United States government has donated US$7.4 million to the Dominican authorities to be used for fighting organized crime, drug trafficking and asset laundering in order to enhance local safety. Minister of Foreign Relations Carlos Morales Troncoso and US Ambassador Raul Yzaguirre signed a Letter of Agreement on Narcotics Control and Law Enforcement in which the countries commit to creating and backing security projects in the Caribbean Basin. Yzaguirre said the program would have a positive impact on the fight against drug trafficking and organized crime. Morales Troncoso said that organized crime demands a concerted response by both governments.
