The Dominican Republic's London Olympics silver medalist in the 400m dash, 19-year old Luguelin Santos, missed out on winning the grand Diamond League award when he came in fourth in the race at the Belgacom Memorial Van Damme in Brussels. He closed in at 45.31 and was defeated by Belgian twins Kevin and Jonathan Borlee (44.75 and 45.02) to cheering local crowds, and by Lalonde Gordon of Trinidad & Tobago who clocked in at 45.13.

Santos tied in points to Borlee who had won on the previous two occasions and took the Diamond Trophy of US$40,000 cash.

Santos won the silver in the London Olympics with a time of 44.46, his best.

He was the runner up champion of the Diamond League 2012.
