Senator Felix Bautista has sent a sheriff's order to the new print and online news magazine, La Lupa, demanding the retraction of a news story headlined "Two similar jails built with almost RD$900 million in difference" within five days.

The president of the magazine's publisher, Grupo SIN, Fernando Hasbun, said that 11 days before they received the sheriff's order he spoke to one of the legislator's assistants, requesting an interview in which the senator could explain his viewpoint on the jail, but the senator's office never returned the call.

The publishers have removed the online html version of its story on alleged overspending by Senator Felix Bautista on the construction of jails. The story published in issue No. 2 of the investigative magazine, nevertheless, is still available in the print version that can be viewed online.

The report by journalist Mercedes Gonzalez examines how the Office of Supervisory Works of the Presidency (OISOE) under Felix Bautista contracted the Anamuya, Higuey municipality jail for RD$1,200 million in 2005, and how the General Attorney Office built 16 centers for RD$1,366.4 million, including the Moca jail that is similar to the Higuey jail for RD$300 million (built in 9 months in 2009), compared to the RD$1,200 million spent by the OISOE for one jail.

The magazine also features a story on previous scandals in which Bautista, a close aide of former President Leonel Fernandez, has been involved over the years. The more recent story says that investigating the senator does not appear to be on President Danilo Medina's agenda.
