The Santo Domingo Water and Sewer Corporation (CAASD) is reminding residents of many areas across the National District that their water supplies will be cut off today, Wednesday 12 September. The Santo Domingo West area will be affected on Friday, 14 and Saturday 15 of September. CAASD director Alejandro Montas said that work would begin today on replacing a 36-inch valve under the John F. Kennedy overpass and another 42-inch valve on Winston Churchill Avenue. Diario Libre learned that the technicians have set a 14-hour deadline for this task. Nevertheless, as a precautionary measure, they have set aside 24 hours for the job.

On former occasions when they have carried out this type of work, the barrios of the capital have been affected for longer periods than scheduled. According to the CAASD, this essential work will require supplies to be cut off to more than 100 sectors of the barrios of the capital, which means that almost the entire city will be without water. In the meantime, on Friday, they will return to the valves on Luperon Avenue, near the Taxistas barrio, where they will replace a 16-inch gate and a 48-inch gate in the Pintura area, near the Isabel Aguiar Avenue at the corner of 27 de Febrero. The affected barrios and sectors include El Millon, Piantini, Gazcue, Ensanche Lugo, Ciudad Nueva and San Carlos, Ensanche Luperon, 24 de Abril, Las Canitas, Simon Bolivar and Capotillo.
