President Danilo Medina has ordered the creation of a new border security force, to be known as the Border Security Task Force (FSTF), to work together with the Special Border Protection Corps (Cesfront). Yesterday, Wednesday 12 September army chief General Ruben Dario Paulino Sem began a reconnaissance mission along the border in Montecristi in the north, scheduled to end in Pedernales in the south on Friday, 14 September. The new military force, which is composed of three groups of 30 agents, will be operational from Saturday, 15 September.

Each group has a truck equipped with computers, night vision equipment, all-terrain vehicles, motorcycles, radio equipment and other logistics to enable the fight against the smuggling of goods, drug trafficking, livestock theft and other violations of the law.

During his tour, General Paulino Sem will meet with farmers in Montecristi, Manzanillo, Dajabon, Restauracion and Loma de Cabrera, who have expressed their concern over the theft of their animals.
