Deputy Minister of Industry and Commerce Ignacio Mendez said that as of Monday, 17 September the government would have RD$10 billion available in specialized funds to lend to micro, small and medium-sized companies. As reported in El Dia, he said that any interested companies could apply for the loans at any of the 70 branches of BanReservas, the government commercial bank, or at Promipyme, the governmental small business agency.

Speaking on the Cuentas Claras radio program, Mendez said that the loans would be processed in a week.

"This means that if you have a beauty parlor, a shop or are a dentist who wants to set up an office you can apply the loan of up to RD$2 million, with the guarantee of the equipment and your signature," he said, as reported in El Dia. He said that the micro business owners do not even have to be incorporated to apply for financing.

Mendez said that an additional RD$10 billion would be available through microfinance institutions.

Mendez said that on Wednesday, 19 September the single-window platform for the company incorporation would begin to operate immediately. He said that the system would enable anyone to create a micro-business in one single place. The procedure will be available at the Santo Domingo Chamber of Commerce and in nine other provinces. Applicants need only to go to one of those offices and by paying RD$2,500 they can formalize their business, including registration of the name and other procedures.
