The National Drug Control Agency (DNCD) has confirmed a report by Senator Wilton Guerrero (PLD-Peravia) that a speedboat suspected of carrying cocaine had come ashore from southern coastal waters on Monday, 23 August. DNCD spokesman Roberto Lebron confirmed that information about the unauthorized suspect drug runner boat was received from the US Coast Guard surveillance plane of the boat at some 50kms from Barahona at 11pm that evening, and that the operation to detain the boat was aborted because of the passing of Tropical Storm Isaac. He said the drugs, which were subsequently seized at the Multimodal Caucedo Port, were on their way to the Netherlands. He said the shipment was not 300 kilos as reported, but weighed 777.63 kilos in 756 packs.

Lebron said that five days after the initial report, when weather conditions permitted, on 28 August at 2:30am in Los Jobos, Peravia, DNCD staff detected that a shipment had been made, following the lead of a suspicious SUV located in a farm with a Caribbean seafront. He said the Armed Forces Defend, Protect and Serve Task Force (Deproser) was notified. Lebron said the operation continued until the drugs were confiscated at the Caucedo port in a combined effort between the DNCD, DEA, Navy and US Coast Guard.

The DNCD spokesman confirmed that Sergeant Erasmo Ferreiras Arias was murdered during the operation and the crime is under investigation. He is said to have informed the authorities. Minister of Armed Forces Sigfrido Pared Perez told Diario Libre that Ferreiras was murdered by the drug traders, as reported in Diario Libre.
