On Friday, 14 September, the sentencing court in San Cristobal decided that Luis Alvarez Renta, who is currently serving a jail sentence for his involvement in the Baninter case, could continue his sentence under house arrest at his home for health reasons.
However, he is still in jail and his lawyer, Eric Raful has said that he cannot understand why the court's decision to allow him to go home has not been implemented.
Attorney General Francisco Dominguez Brito has said that Alvarez Renta cannot go home under house arrest until the appeal he has in process has begun.
