The 8th Festival of Contemporary Dance (Edanco) opens at the Palace of Fine Arts (Bellas Artes) in Santo Domingo on 18 September with contemporary dance performances through 25 September. This year's program features dancers from Haiti, Spain, Puerto Rico, Colombia, Canada and the United States.

To back emerging talents, Edanco's program includes the winners of the first five places in the Festival of Youth Dance held every year during the Santo Domingo Book Fair. This year the festival will pay homage to Dominican folklorists Nereyda Rodriguez (Fundacion Teatro Popular Danzante), who died last year, and her dance partner Mirope Arvelo (Mirito).

The festival will also hold master classes and workshops taught by the visiting dancers.

See the Expo-Edanco photography exhibit at Bellas Artes, where a select group of photographers present their views of the festival.
