Apparently the US$203 million spent on overpasses and skyways have not solved the traffic problems along the John F. Kennedy avenue in Santo Domingo. According to Hoy reporter Juan M. Ramirez, the five-minute trip can take as long as an hour during the morning and afternoon rush hours. He says that the traffic jams start in Los Alcarrizos, especially at Kilometer Nine where buses, public cars and minibuses all come to a stop for passengers. Then, overpass by overpass, he lists the reasons for the traffic jams, mostly because of the number of cars that want to go from local traffic lanes to the express lanes. The reporter noted that the US$203 million final cost was more than US$40 million over budget, and that several leading urban planning experts had warned of the damaging effects of the overpasses.
