According to the latest report from the World Economic Forum, the Dominican Republic is improving the quality of its ports, having moved from 58th position last year to 51st in the world rankings this year of 144 countries, as reported in El Dia. The ranking is part of the World Economic Forum's Global Competitiveness Report 2012-2013.

Teddy Heinsen, president of the Dominican Republic Shipping Association (ANRD) said that the results showed the potential and efficiency that had been achieved by the public and private sector working together in the ports. The Multimodal Caucedo Port has received its ISO2800 quality certification. Heinsen said that notable improvements have also been made in the ports of Cabo Rojo, San Souci and La Romana. The latter now complies with international security standards and has an innovative approach to tourism as well as cargo.

The Dominican Republic is also listed above average in quality of air transport infrastructure, with a ranking of 41 in that indicator, and 50 in the indicator of available airline seats.
