US ambassador Raul Yzaguirre handed over a Boston Whaler and other logistical equipment worth US$1.4 million to the Navy yesterday, Wednesday 19 September. He said that the Dominican authorities were doing an excellent job in fighting drug trafficking.

The ambassador said that the Dominican Republic was the first country in the region to receive a boat of this type, which is evidence of the United States commitment to cooperate in the fight against drug dealing, illegal migration and other crimes affecting maritime security.

The head of the navy, Vice Admiral Edwin Dominici Rosario, thanked him for the donation, saying it would provide great support.

Armed Forces Minister Admiral Sigfrido Pared Perez, presidential drug advisor Marino Vinicio Castillo, National Drug Control Agency chief Major General Rolando Rosado Mateo, army chief Ruben Dario Paulino Sem and the head of the Dominican air force, Major General Ramon Hernandez, also attended the ceremony.
