According to Hugo Acero, citizen safety consultant to the United Nations, a delegation from the UN is in the DR at the invitation of President Danilo Medina to visit the National Police headquarters for an initial evaluation of resources and equipment in place to counteract crime in the country.
He said that they will also be visiting the Public Prosecutors' offices, the Ministry of Public Health and other institutions as the purpose of the visit was not only the safety of citizens from crime, but also other types of risks like floods, traffic accidents and emergencies, as the President wishes to improve the State response.
The UN team is being accompanied by Deputy Presidency Minister Zoraima Cuello and police chief Jose Armando Polanco Gomez.
