Valentin argues for single-chamber legislature

Deploring the infighting between the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies, Senator Julio Cesar Valentin is now arguing for a major change in the structure of the legislative branch of government. He wants a single chamber, similar to some governments in Europe, which he says will save the state time and money and bring about a smoother running administration. According to Hoy, he said, with a smile, that, "even my grandchildren will probably not thank me for this." The PLD senator from Santiago said that the infighting between the two chambers of the Congress was blocking the legislative process, especially legislative proposals of his own sponsorship, such as the Law on Pardons, and the bills fail to pass because of the time constraints.
