Speaking to Listin Diario journalists while flying back from the USA yesterday, Wednesday 26 September, President Danilo Medina said that he would not be submitting the proposal for the National Budget on 1 October as mandated by the Constitution. He said a delay estimated at two weeks would be needed to decide on tax reform, and for signing a new agreement with the International Monetary Fund.
The budget for the current year is RD$436,000 billion, but he would not be drawn as to how much he expected it to be this year.
Although he will not be complying with the date as stated in the Constitution, there is an option for Congress to approve a later date, so the President is not violating the law.
