Pilot Victor Hugo Sanchez and Eduardo Leyba, a police captain assigned to the National Drug Agency (DNCD) at the Puerto Plata International Airport, were killed yesterday when the plane they were traveling in crashed just after take-off from the Constanza airport. The airplane was a twin engine Piper 31-350, US registry N711WX. It crashed into the ground in the municipality of Tireo near Pinalito dam, 15kms from the airport, minutes after taking off on Thursday afternoon, 27 November. Investigators from the DNCD and army battalion conducted investigations at the crash site to establish whether it went up in flames as a result of the crash, or after landing. The Dominican Institute of Civil Aviation said that the Civil Aviation Board Accidents Commission reported that the pilot did not make contact with the Flight Information Center (FIC) or the Aircraft Control Center (ACC) prior to the accident, as reported in Diario Libre. The newspaper reports that the airplane had been out of service and was repaired and delivered to its owners on Wednesday, 26 September.
