EdeEste, the power distribution company for the eastern region, has told Diario Libre that the service suspensions affecting some parts of Calle El Conde and the San Carlos sector are caused by losses resulting from non-payment of electricity in these parts of the National District that have grown to 32% and 40%.

EdeEste's Communications and Public Relations Department informed that the company has held talks with members of the El Conde Street Traders Association (Asoconde), as well as leaders of the neighborhood associations in both sectors. The company explained the situation that forced them to schedule a suspension of service for several hours each day.

They said that they are working in coordination with the principal leaders of both communities in order to find a solution to the situation that affects local residents as well as company profits. They said that the service would be improved in both sectors, so that they will have a B-circuit program, which means 21 hours of electricity.

"For the other communities, EdeEste will continue working to provide an improved service, but without the people's cooperation in paying their bills and avoiding illegal connections, they cannot have 24-hour circuits, even though we would like this to happen, because it is financially unsustainable." They added that the government has broad-based plans for improving the quality of the service.
