Blue Amber

I was doing some reading about Amber and found out that DR has a unique form of Amber that is blue. Not only that, but when you hold it up to the light, it changes back to the normal yellow color. Apparently there are mines around Santiago, so I was wondering if anyone had any first hand info about this and possibly where I can get some cheap.

I have seen blue amber in Latvia, along with other unusual colors. It is real amber but it has been processed to give it the colors. I have no doubt that if you found anyone offering blue amber in the DR at an affordable price it would be the same situation. Still very attractive, and still amber, but no great resale value unless you found another mug to take it off your hands. Natural blue amber is rare and expensive, especially now there is plenty of spending money in China and the Middle East.

I really wasn't looking at it for resale value, I was more interested in it because its freaking cool. I would to get a piece with a bug in it and maybe something nice for my mom and grandmother. Something a little unique.

You have to find a reputable dealer. I always wanted to visit mines near Santiago. The best way to buy blue amber is to buy in in Santo Domingo. Start with the museum of amber. There is a shop there. Last time I checked the piece I liked there it was around $2K. I decided to go for something custom made. They delivered it to Sos.
Personally I think amber suits a younger woman more. And why would anyone give say an amber piece with a bug inclusion to a grandmother?
