On the ground now staying at Hotel Garant (http://www.hotelgarant.com/). Not fancy but good basic rooms. Very clean, good water pressure and lots of hot water. AC and fan works great. 1-1/2 block from Duarte, secure and very quite. Wi-Fi 6 Mbps strong signal in my room, pool and breakfast area. Luxury room for $ 50.00/night. Breakfast quite good RD 200.

We all have choices to make. Some like a pool so they can shave when the water stops running. For all its ammenities, The Palace has no pool but then the water and the electricity are always working and it's 2 blocks from the Caribbean so I can get my wet on without walking around with chlorine eyes and sinus headaches for the next two days. There's something about a private bedroom balcony that just attracts me so when given the choice I choose that first.

At Santo Domingo's Hotel Acuarium the 4th floor rooms have private balconies in front and back. I remember with fondness the night I had Big Butt Eva doggy style over the balcony railing there as we watched a cock fight happening on the street below. I was smoking a Cohiba Petit Lancero and we were sipping cuba libres and every time I have run into her since she remembered and mentioned that night to me as well. How do you put a price on an unforgettable memory? It takes a lot to make a permanent impression on a Ho in one night.

On a serious note, I would think that the Palace would have a really nice pool based on everything else I've heard. A bedside balcony is a sexy look though.

I understand. The Palace is a self indulgence for us old guys who need more than a bed and a place to shower. Some days I don't come out of the apartment and just get everything I need delivered.

They don't have a restaurant or a bar and I found myself going a couple blocks down Ave 20 Dec to The Hamilton among other places. They definitely have the breakfast spot and besides being right by the mercado they're also right across the street from the Play Boy Club. I met the owner and he's got a handle on the business. There's a casino and a 24/7 bar and the rooms, while nothing special are decent and inexpensive. I promised him I'd stay there in the near future. It's a very friendly place and welcoming. It definitely give a different look at BC from the other places I've stayed. The street rats don't make it that far up the hill and with two very nice Cathouses in two blocks the place is a good bet. Definitely monger and Chica friendly.

How far is the walk to Piano bar?

Equal to rockys to western union using sosua units of measure. But practically next door to el Batey night club and higher end casas

It wouldn't feel right bringing some of those girls to villa florencia. Like picking up a streetwalker in a Bentley.

They probably had the Play Boy Chicas from across the street over for a pool party. I'm sure there are Chicas hanging out at the bar and casino from time to time but I don't know that he has any "on site" talent. The place seems a little smallish for that.

I'll tell you what, this guy's got the right idea, offering night club and casino excursions to Santo Domingo. Sounds like he and ISOC would get along really well. I think on my next trip I'm going to split my stay between Hamilton and The Palace. 20 Deciembre is a well travelled street with plenty of action at the colmados and there's always a moto to take you anywhere for a few pesos. It's 3 blocks from Duarte but a World away at the same time.

Quick update:

First I wanted to thank Sr. Tranquillo his friend Ken & Carlos for several tours around Yayowville. It's great to get live intel on day one. Unfortunately have had a small bout of bad ice or food. Has to be that, it can't b the alcohol. Lost a day and 1/2 but should be back in action this evening. Plan to check out El Bayte disco. Tomorrow into the surf.

I'll do a full blown trip report when I get back. I'm having computer problems (internal security, not hotel Wi-fi or ISOC).

Good to meet and hang a bit with you. It could be a bit hard to contact me the next couple of days, I went to a couple of pool parties on Sunday, one in the afternoon and one at night. Unfortunately I misplaced my phone somewhere along the way, and I am useless without it. So it may be difficult to contact me right now. Hope your stomach is better soon.

You would be fine without me, no doubt, but the phone if I don't find it soon will be replaced, within the week, I am hoping I left it at one of the parties, and I can get it back, or maybe it fell out of my pocket in my car, will do a thorough search today. My major fear is that I put it on top of my car and drove off with it on top, I did that once before but realized it after about a block, and luckily it was still there. My numbers should be backed up this time, so I should have all my numbers except for the newer ones, the last three months or so, we shall see, how it works out.

I understand completely. I was here ten years ago in Santo Domingo. I had no idea mongering existed. I made a day trip out and drank some beers and got to know a waitress. I suggested that before I return to the USA we meet for a date. She cashed out the register, told her friend to cover for her, came around the bar and led me by the hand up the hill......

And another Hotel Garant story. On day three I stopped down to the Colmado and grabbed a couple of beers. On my way in back into the hotel a friend walked in with me. I had met him the night before. I pulled a beer from my bag. I walked into the kitchen area. I assumed there would be an opener somewhere. There on the side of the cabinet was an opener. I opened my beer and all of a sudden from behind me he is swearing. I said what's wrong. He explains that he has been here for two weeks and has been opening his beers with a spoon. I told him been there done that.

Opener in the kitchen, and at the Colmado above the checkout girl are can openers for 45 pesos.

Quick update on Hotel Garant. The other day we had a power failure. Their Backup generator took over in approximately 5 seconds. My computer never lost signal (Wi-fi). Lights back on and TV reset in approximately another 5 seconds.

Directly below the breakfast area is their generator. It is 87 KW. Best comparison is the emergency generator for my father’s farm. Will/has run two freezers, two refrigerators, all the lights in house, barn and garage, TV, VCR, Dish, two stove elements (or one oven element) is 5 KW.

Breakfasts are 200 pesos. (1)Traditional – Eggs, plantains, salami w/ coffee. (2)American – ham & cheese omelet with toast. (3) Pancakes w/butter & syrup. (4) scrambled eggs with ham, cheese, peppers & onions. The reason I bring this up is on day #3, I ask if they could make me a fruit plate on the side. She said no problem, do I have the fruit. If while eating breakfast one of the “fruit sales girls” aka girl with basket on head stops I buy fruit for the next day. If not I pick some up in my travels. Options include bananas, mango, papaya, avocado, pineapple, melon (cantaloupe).
Laundry – There are washers and dryers in the corner of the office. I had never seen them doing anything other than towels and sheets. During Sr. Tranquillo’s mayoral inspections he asks me about that. I of course said that it’s the hotel’s laundry for towels & sheets. He then observed that they were washing pants. The next day when the boss was in he told me no problem they do laundry. I ask how much? Answer 20 pesos per piece. I have always avoided hotel laundries because they are traditionally expensive.

I prefer having a local do my laundry (I had help this trip). You haven’t lived until you have had your underwear washed, bleached, starched, ironed and folded for next to nothing.

I stayed at the Garant the past 2 days. Rooms are $57 per night for a basic room, $67 per night for a superior room. The prices include tax and hotel prefers to be paid in cash. Hotel serves breakfast and that's it. I didn't try it so no comment. Two blocks from Duarte so the location is good.

The rooms are very basic with no amenities such as shampoo. Only one small bar of soap. However, the WIFI was good and they had a full size refrigerator in the room. Small old fashioned safe not big enough for a laptop but you can lock up your cash, passport and jewelry. The room had a nice flat screen TV and had plenty of channels. No phones in the room.

Calypso is where I stayed on my only time going to BC. Toro was also there at the same time for a few days. It is a 3 story (I think) hotel about a 2 block walk just north of the eastern end of Duarte. Has good sized rooms, queen beds, balcony (my room faced the street in front.....a little noisy at night, would recommend a room toward the back away from the street) a big pool and a key type safe.

When I was there in March of '12, I paid $45 a night. Wasn't a great hotel, but the location relative to Duarte and the beach, was very convenient. Could walk to the Boathouse in a few minutes.

That was the start of a 2 week trip then. I was at the Calypso from about the 16th thru 19th or something like that before heading up to the north coast to finish my last 10 days.

Guess we just missed each other or were there at the same time and didn't know it!

I'll be back in BC from Sept 8-12, reserved at the El Gaucho Hotel. $35 a night. Even though yayow isn't running his bar anymore, he'll be freed up to hang there, or wherever, with him back in retirement mode, so I hope to catch up with him for a beer or two.

Come on down if you can make it.

Hey there is my room in the corner....That's the suite for $62.00.....I was happy with that room. Nicer bed than the regular rooms and bigger overall room. Jimmy loved watching soccer on my couch

I would open up my curtains at 11AM bleary eyed and Jimmy would be down at pool with his harem waving at me :lol:

More like noon or 1PM.

Okay, now I gotta check this place out.

Villa Florencia was downright opulent. Shit, I had a laundry machine in the bathroom, complete sets of champagne flutes, brandy snifters, every kitchen appliance imaginable and I've seen less secure doors on bank vaults. One key turn operates 2 deadbolts, the 2nd turn operates 2 more. Once I get a Ho....I got a Ho, LOL.... and Italian (from Italy) Marble, fixtures and chandeliers everywhere and the staff treated everyone like Admirals.

I'm dying to see what 1st best is like.

My 1st night in the D.R. was at the then, Intercontinental. If you've ever stayed at Intercontinental hotels anywhere on Earth, you wanted your money back.

Then I found the Acuarium and it was ON. There's 3 or 4 casitas within 3 blocks of the Acuarium. Shit, maybe more now.

I started staying in Boca Chica because I got tired if going to the D.R. for 8-9 days in Feb and coming home more pale than before I left, in sleeping all day, out partying and up fucking all night. Many trips I never made it to the beach at all.

Colmado delivers...everything, even Punani. That colmado across the street from where Playboy was (next to the Hamilton)? Dude would bring my booze, mixers, snacks, breakfast shit and the Ho waiting for him across the street and bring them all on his little moto and the watchi-man would bring them all up to the room. I have no idea how they do that.It is actually not that difficult. There is s woman in Sosua that goes around with that every morning and I usually buy bananas from her. She made me try that thing once and I was able to walk few steps without dropping anything. With a little training it would not be difficult to walk normally...

I wonder how Boca Chica is for Christmas?

The weeks leading up to Christmas are possibly the best time of year to be
there. I spent a week there between Thanksgiving and Christmas and it
was my best visit to BC as far as the quality of experience with the girls.
The reason is there are a huge number of people living close by in Santo
Domingo. Most have Christmas presents to buy and they need money. It's an
easy day trip for the available SD girls to go to BC in their free time
and see if they can make some extra money doing some tricks. There are
lots more fresh girls (as opposed to burned out whores) to pick from. The
average quality of looks and attitude goes up during that period.

I don't see the problem with floaters. I float, too - even with two aluminum 80-cf tanks, I needed 16 pounds of lead ballast to keep me comfortably underwater on the Boca Chica reefs. Maybe it's too much fizz in those Presidentes; I had to tighten up my BC harness considerably when we got down to 134 feet on my deepest-yet dive, Wednesday afternoon.

(It might appear that I'm unconsciously misinterpreting Greydread's comment. Let me assure you, I am CONSCIOUSLY 'misinterpreting' his post.)

Book direct, stay 7 nights and get a discount.

Matthew, the owner, and his crepes ...

I had the crepes for breakfast one morning, too, rolled up with eggs and bacon. They were good, but unless you're jonesing for that sweet syrup, they weren't any better than the empanadas.

The Garant definitely looks nice, but has any one ever stayed recently at the Zapata Hotel? I vaguely remember some people praising the place years ago.

There were a lot of mixed opinions about the Zapata years ago. Some good, but quite a few not so good.

Roughly ten years ago, the owner wanted it to be a family hotel, but wanted mongers to stay there too. He didn't treat the monger ones very well. I and a friend went there once with our wives, and they really treated her (us) badly.

The guy's son practically called my wife a whore.

There was also a disco next door that belonged to a hotel further back off of the beach, and it would go until 3-4 every morning, making sleep damn near impossible.

But ten years is a long time, and somebody should take one for the team and check it out again and report back.

I bet Yayow could tell us something, and I bet it wouldn't be too monger friendly.

Garant is like home...It is perfect monger hotel...with pool and seats....Granted it is a 2-3 star hotel but something about it makes it a great monger hotel....The corner rooms are great if you playa like me...haha...

Thing with Boca I noticed is the hotels on the beach in monger duerte area are all OLD and run down. Minkys place is OLD...his room wasnt bad as he had penthouse...but forget the others...Big Dave left pronto....Rafas place looked old....I stayed at Italian place near Yayow...not bad but still like the Garant better. That new place X stayed at is new but you have to go through restaurant...

Jimmy and I walked through the brand new hotel on the beach near rafas place....200usd a night...didnt have a monger feel to it....no bueno...but yimmy loved the pool...145 for rooms looking at road....this is place they tore down all the shacks on beach....big bucks italian dude bought it supposedly....

The Valencia is the bomb where Grey stays when he was a playa...:p

The true value of Villa Florencia is the 2 and 3 BR apartments. 1BR at $100 a night is okay, considering the opulence but 3 Guys in a 3BR for $175 with a balcony that stretches across all bedrooms and the living room, washing machine, fully stocked gourmet kitchen with dishwasher and a view to die for is the shit. Every Chica who walks in the door leaves her thong somewhere between there and the bedroom. Most don't make it past the living room pit so don't be hating.

Also, don't hate on El Capitan. As long as you can get one of the sea-view terrace apartments you are guaranteed a degree of satisfaction with your choice. :tongue-new:

There are 2 up on the top floor and you have to book them well in advance. There are two booking agents for this property, one is Italian and the other is Dominican and they represent separate business interests. The Dominican Guy (can't find his card) got us the better deals. All the apartments are owned by Italian families who come into town seasonally and rented out the rest of the year. It's a good deal for them and a good deal for us.

The watchie-man there is cool as Hell and he's really more of a concierge. when I get there I give him a list and gets a moto-kid to bring water, booze, snacks, Punani, massage Lady, whatever. They have a Husband and Wife housekeeping team and for a small consideration they keep your place immaculate. I caught them shining the glass teardrops hanging from the chandelier. It's the people who work there who bring the real opulence to the place and every tome I stayed there I went away feeling spoiled. I can't even count the times that we were out in front of the place just kicking it with the watchie-man and scooped up some cuties headed down the hill to El Batey who never made it there that night or else got there late with extra cash and dick on their breath.

For $70 a night, I would stay there.

Does the "brand new hotel" have a name? It looks like BC is getting serious about being a vacay destination.

It's about fucking time.

Villa Florencia is over the top nice, and there's a hotel where the BoatHouse Bar used to be, but it looks like some folks are finally getting serious about converting the place.
