You can have Omega. The guy is a classless jerk who beats women. I wouldn't put a penny in his pocket.

Pretty bad when the promoter doesn't know what he's going to charge at the door.

Omega was at classico and NO Lebron James is not here. Its the Center from the Nuggets. J McGhee or something. The rumors that spread here are amazing. Classico had tons of dudes dancing amongst themselves because the chicas weren't paying 1k rd to get in.

What u talkin about El Rey????

Three different Dominicans told me Lebron will be in Classicos last night. Thursday night, they announced in DLatin, the Miami heat will be in Classicos.

I would not know if he was there. They were charging 1000 pesos. For Omega or any event in Sosua??:icontd:

I didn't go but guys from my hotel, including the owner went. Eight dollars for a cuba libre, and they asked for American money . 3 cuba libres came to 1000 pesos. Omega finally went on at 245 and played until 415. A lot of people had already left.

Well I for one don't like the crowd that him being there will attract. Maybe it's my old age, but I don't want to see Sosua turn into Miami on Memorial Day weekend. If the mayor thinks us mongers are bad wait to they see that crowd. Pissing on the streets, fucking out in public, walking out on bills.

Well, since I was there w/ vegasvic7 I feel compelled to continue the conversation on how godawful last night's event was.

First problem: Fucking ridiculous 1000 peso cover. That party was not even remotely worthy of 1000 pesos. And it didn't even make sense.
Your having Omega- a Dominican favorite- perform at an event w/ nothing but a bunch of noobie weekend warriors that the promoters imported from Miami. Having Omega perform should attract a large Dominican crowd. But the 1000 pesos cover was a HUGE turnoff to Dominicans. Right off the bat, the promoters made a dickheaded decision.

Second problem: Not only did you have to pay 1000 pesos, you had to wait fucking forever to get through the goddamn door.
There were basically three ways to get in that motherfucker:

A) Know somebody

B) Pay the security guard a couple hundred pesos

C) Get lucky

So before you even pay the 1000 pesos, you were on the line for what felt like an eternity. Fuck that.

Third problem: Drink prices. As soon as I got upstairs, I went to the bar to get a drink. They show me a menu of the drinks. I really didn't even read it (I should have). I skimmed it and ordered a cuba libre. I get the drink and the bill is 8 FUCKING DOLLARS. 8 dollars for a watered-down cuba libre in a plastic cup. To make matters worse, they didn't want to accept my pesos- they only wanted DOLLARS. In the Dominican Goddam Republic. I forced the bitch bartender to accept the pesos I had. And when she brought me back my change, she demanded her "propina". Ended giving the bitch $100 pesos. So with the the propina included, I ended up paying 11 dollars for a watered-down cuba libre in a plastic cup. Fuck outta here.

Fourth problem: Omega. I like Omega. But as to why the promoters had Omega there, I don't even know. There wasn't a huge Dominican turnout. Because the security guards were cherry-picking who got in, and that ridiculous 1000 pesos cover, not many Dominicans got upstairs. The people in the party were mostly Americans from Miami that the promoters brought in. Probably more American bitches than Dominican hoes. Obviously, by charging 1000 pesos, they were sending a clear message to Dominicans: this party ain't for you. So
why the fuck was Omega- a Dominican favorite- performing for a bunch of people who don't who he is??

Men dancing on Classico's bars?!?!:confused::confused::confused::confused::confused:

Yeah. I'm crying with you.

I've been to plenty of local concerts in clubs in Santiago where the the door fee was 500RD. And that was for Julian and Tulilie (two of the biggest names in Tipico Merenque). The locals don't like to pay much more for that. And I refuse to.

This is sad.:(

The basketball player everyone keeps alluding to in this thread (Javele Mcgee) is known as the resident clown in the NBA. Very athletic for his size but no skills apart from shot-blocking and dumb as a rock in general. ZERO basketball I.Q. Makes at least one play per game (usually two) where everyone wonders if he's mentally retarded or not. He was a back-up for Denver all last year (despite that huge contract) and the guy starting in front of him was a stiff (Kostas Koufos) so that tells you something. When asked about it, Denver's coach said something like "lazy and crazy doesn't work in the NBA). God bless those guaranteed contracts.

Omega got paid.

The promoter got his cut.

The club made money thanx to the ridiculous entry fee and drink prices.

No Dom tigres to worry about tearing the club up ... just some happy-to-be-there Gringos all too happy to pay those prices who spent the evening hopping around feelin' themselves cuz they basically had the club to themselves. What's $25 to them to have a whole club to yourself with the "bonus" of later having Omega come out (whether they knew him or not they go home and have a story to tell).

So were the ppl who put it together "mentally retarded" or "crazy like a fox"?

I think the latter.

I have fond memories of the Sosua Car Wash on the main hwy just out of town. Plenty of local talent available for dancing bachata, merengue and salsa. They had cute waitresses there sometimes that were available for take out if the local chicas didn't appeal to you. I miss the business model of the Dominican Tipico, shooting fish in a barrel on pedro has lost its appeal......

those who want to try the place Better hurry up. The first gringo owner who owned 50% (other half is dominican owned) already lost all his money in only 1 month of activities and going back to the states this week. this guy came to the dr twice on vacation and built or bought half of this place, not sure. Another gringo took over his part last friday. The kitchen is suppose to start next week, most of the restaurant stuff was bought from La Roka. Not sure this place's gonna last very long. the day bartender hardly makes 100 pesos propina a day. Oh and by the way, she wants a Samsung galaxy 4

Um,

Looking at pics from the event...it does not seem as bad as some are saying. Except for the fact of the line outside getting in & having to pay in dollars, I see nothing but dominicans in there along with the group from the beach fest package. See nothing but familiar faces that line D'latin on a nightly basis. 1000 pesos is nothing to what some of his events cost in the states...sometimes $50 entry & $15 drinks. It seems this event was mainly for that group as advertised on the website (like a spring break weekend) & in the pics so it was not for the locals even though many locals were there...just dressed up in disguise :corky:

I was not there, so I cant really judge...but from the outside looking in, it does not seem that big of a deal for a one time event.

How do you know it was a profitable venture?

The club was full of people buying overpriced drinks in addition to whomever paid those silly entrance fees. Their only overhead was the handful of barmaids and security they had to pay shit wages for the evening.

Omega came on to perform. Artists (at least established ones) don't come on to perform unless they get paid first .. and get paid what was negotiated upon beforehand.

No reason to think everyone involved didn't walk away happy.

This is actually where I was the night of the Omega concert, went Saturday also. Friday was empty but Saturday the place was packed, they had a band that night They aren't serving food yet, I went out Saturday and brought back pizza. The tables all have separate built in round tiki roofs made kind of like a table umbrella, but they are very low, it is annoying walking through the place.
