It appears that someone burned down Jolly Roger overnight/morning. The bar was not my cup of tea but it was very popular with the expats. Real Shame.

The owners of the Jolly Roger had alot, I repeat ALOT of enemies in Sosua

They are not very well liked up and down Pedro Clisante as well.

No one deserves this though.

This location has been around for a long time in Sosua.

Back in the day, way before Jolly Rogers, I understand this was one of the main pick up joints in the old days of Sosua.

They need to learn to keep their nose out of other peoples business. They never know who they are snitching on.

Maybe the title of this thread should have been; Someone, or Something caused Jolly Rodgers to burn down. And yes JudgeSmails, two trucks from Charamicos attended the fire within minutes of being called.:ilike:

****RUMOR****

The reason I named it "someone". I heard that a guy was kicked out for molesting one of the waitresses that worked there. He was then heard around town saying he was going to torch the place. I heard from another source that he actually was trying to recruit someone to do it for him. I also heard the security camera picked up a Molotov cocktail entering the bar.

Like I said, this is what I heard on the street. The street here is sometimes very unreliable. We will see.

I walked by earlier...the place is very dark and blackened. A few people were inside having a beer. The smell of smoke is thick in the area.

Never been in there, never met the owners. I only know what a couple of Dominican friends and an expat have been talking about.

I believe they are Canadian if I'm not mistaken. I remember a widebody gentleman strolling around town with the Jolly Roger golf cart when I was in town. Those stupid street kids who walk up and down PC kept trying to jump on. He eventually stopped and started kicking them one by one until they ran away.

I've never had a drink there as the crowd looked above my age bracket.

Big shame, no one deserves this.

Although far from being finished, Jolly Roger was packed with patrons about an hour ago.

It looked like they had decided to throw a party for all the friends that had helped them in their rebuild. You are right though, they still have a way to go, but it must be all finishing touches.

Other people paid for his rebuild?

Other people paid for his rebuild?

I think people contributed to some rebuild fund which was created in the aftermath. Remember reading about this on Dr1.

I guess their insurance didn't cover everything?

From pictures on facebook, it looked like there were quite a few friends who helped with things like banging nails, installing the bar, hanging the crow's nest and who knows what else..
I don't imagine the insurance paid for everything.
fyi, I think I was mistaken saying it was a party for those friends, I think it may really be open now?
So kudos to the Jolly Roger and all their friends, it is good to see a business in Sosua rebuild from disaster.
