07/2014 - Anyone going to Santiago in Mid August?

I just got back from there in June but now I realized I have more vacation days than I expected so might as well go back. Last time I was with a couple friends(my first time in DR) and I was locked down by this girl the entire time. I had to cancel on quite a few girls some I really wanted to see. I'm not complaining the girl I was with was gorgeous and was always available while the other girls had work. I do plan on seeing her again. But this time I'm going alone and have a few chicas lined up. I know once I see the girl from the first time she will lock me down for the remainder of the trip. So I was just wondering if anyone is up for something the first couple nights I'm there(8/13). All I have booked so far is a one way plane ticket lol.....

Does anyone have experience with booking on airbnb.com? It looks like a cheaper option than hotels. I do plan on staying Camp David maybe 2 nights. But I'm also looking for a place in the city so I dont have to drive to the clubs or bars. It a BnB place a good choice?

In regards to airbnb, just make sure you know what you're getting... Although most of my few experience are positive, check on the size of the bed, bathroom, ceiling or stand up fans if you think you may need them. Air conditioning is very rare and in probably 1 percent of apartments... Also, some owner rent by the bedroom and not apartment, so there' a chance you are sharing with another guest... That didn't happen to me, but it could... Also if needed, check for elevators in the building, epecially if your in a highrise or a few flights up... Not only could it be a pain, but you or others may not be able to hike it up the steps, especially with groceries, or with a drunken buzz going on... Also, many chicas dont like the hike in heels...

Just a few things to look into... We may take them for granted in the states, but not always standard in Colombia or elsewhere...

besides the crappy decor Matum was extremely lenient towards chicas. A friend of mine had chicas going in and out every hour of the day. No extra charge. The only problem were the girls that work the front desk during the day.They gave their disapproving looks but even they gave their numbers to my friend before we left. Also my friends have been staying there quite a bit in the past and knows quite a few people that work there so maybe that's why there were no problems at all.in fact the staff encouraged it and cheered him on lol.

I met her on Dominican Cupid and I was locked down by choice because I was into her and she made me happy enough that I didnt really have a giant urge to see someone else. I'm not starving for sex as I did just get out of a long term relationship. Again we did not discuss money, she never asked, not even to pay for her cab fare to and from home or bus fare to meet me in Sosua and going back(different story). Everything I did pay I volunteered. Being this is my first time I'm sure I missed some stuff that I probably should have paid for but she never brought up money. And the only reason I offered to give her a little something is because I hear from my friends and also seeing for myself how hard life really is there.

But none of this even matters because I'm a very realistic person. I know not to fall in love and get attached. I'm not letting it get in my head. I do what I want on my vacation. The Waldbaums by me makes all coupons under a dollar double. I had a bunch of 75 cent coupons so I picked up 8 packs.

Camp David was the best meal on my entire 7 day trip. All the other places were worse than chains here like TGIF and Applebees. Even Jarrabacao was no better than the corner diner. Definately sounds like he does NOT appreciate typical dominican food. Outside restaraunt run by expats I find it rare that Dominicans can imitate food from other countries. So this could be a problem for food lover...

Camp David was the best meal on my entire 7 day trip. All the other places were worse than chains here like TGIF and Applebees. Even Jarrabacao was no better than the corner diner. Could be I dont know wtf to order? lol I dunno...but none of the food stood out. I cant name one restaurant. There was 1 place in Sosua that did their steak pretty good but still nothing to write home about.

But some places in sosua had above average pizza then what I've expierance in nyc for the last 5 -10 years. Its made by real Italians as opposed to Mexicans that seem to be in 90% of pizzarias in ny now... shit patsy ' s in Harlem even took a down turn last time I was there..

I met her on Dominican Cupid and I was locked down by choice because I was into her and she made me happy enough that I didnt really have a giant urge to see someone else. Again we did not discuss money, she never asked, not even to pay for her cab fare to and from home or bus fare to meet me in Sosua and going back(different story). Everything I did pay I volunteered. If I dont feel like hanging with her I wont hesitate to find something else. But right now I do enjoy her company very much. And no I'm not going to be some dude crying at an airport lol...and yes I've read enough of these stories you were referring to keep an even keel.

I'm relatively young (30) and at least look mildly attractive(though that is debatable :D) I ran into a girl at Club Level that I had been previously talking to on Tagged but it wasn't really going anywhere. As a Dominican I do take great exception to this, because I know for a fact that isn't the case, look at me I surround myself with chicks who are not interested in money, who are not interested in me marrying them for a visa, who just want to spend some quality time with a dude they vibe with, and actually like.

I get very tired of the "They're all whores" attitude myself, along with the old "You know how Dominicans are" mindset. I have bitten my tongue more that once.

My favorite for years, ha been Big Bob Gibson's pulled pork... I always buy a fast pass before the event, so I only have to wait on semi-long lines... If you dont have this pass the wait can be around 3 hours for each vendor... Even with the pass, waiting on the "fast pass" line can take up to an hour at times...

My favorite and the line I start each year is Big Bob Gibson. Originally from Decatur Alabama, it is by far the best pulled pork and red BBQ sauce on the planet...

They have won over 10 competitions for their sauce and over 10 for their world championship Pork... Here is a sneak peak at their pulled pork sandwich loaded with sauce...

Maybe one of the mods can pull out of "Food talk" from this thread, being that it's officially jacked big time!

He lets them use his name and image cause he's 80 years old and just doesn't care, but it's not like he's making any money from his kids trading on his name and reputation.

I've had at least as good and perhaps better in fucking Canada :p and at least it's equal, and considering the location more enjoyable and satisfying pizza in Sosua :wink::lol:... Those that have not been to Sosewer in the last 3-5 years and tried the majority of the pizza places there don't know what they're missing :wink::corky:. There is great pizza to be found in Sosua and even better Italian in general. (Thought NOT "Italian-American)...:confused:

I bought a whole large pie from John's in the village, since they don't sell slices. I ate a couple and they were decent....but I've had a lot better... Took the rest "to go" and went to a park I like across the street from a great place to get a coffee and watch the scenery and around the corner from 2 GREAT Gelato places (More on them later) and gave the remaining $25 worth of pizza away to all the rummys in the park. THEY seemed to like it just fine! LOL :p:rofl:

I almost decided to go to DiFara's today... Was reading some reviews and wanna try it.. But then saw the average wait time and decided i'll go during the week (they are closed Monday and Tuesday) so maybe Wednesday or Thursday when there is more of a chance that I wont have to wait as long...
